Are you into astrology? Have you been following the full moon cycle? Are you aware we are currently in Mercury Retrograde? . . I started the week feeling good, ready to concur the world. I ended the week completely frazzled and longing to get in control again. Dishwashers are breaking, tempers are flaring, the kids are finding ways to get into anything and everything (rocks were being flung at each other one point). Man, it’s been a week. . . I’m curious, how is your week going? Cool and calm. Or crazy from all directions? . . Whether you believe in Mercury Retrograde bringing chaos into one’s life or not, I thought the science behind Mercury Retrograde was fascinating. Basically, Mercury is lapping the Earth in orbit. When it laps us, it appears as if it is going backwards (think of passing a car on the interstate, you are both going fast in one direction, when you pass the other car, it looks as if they are going backwards). I imagined scientists in the 100 AD (completely pulled this year out of my head, probably not at all accurate), seeing planets going backwards and being so confused/amazed by the discovery. . . It’s kind of crazy how I’ve been putting certain things off because of the price or the time away from my family. I’ve wanted to join a yoga studio for over a year, but I never made the plunge. It was too expensive (you can’t a Y pass for the same amount and the whole family would enjoy it) and I couldn’t find the right time to go (because I often take time away from the family for business time and time for yoga on top of that felt selfish). It took reading a book to finally convince myself to make the move. And I’m loving it! . . I’ve heard it so many times. Mothers tend to take care of their kids first before themselves. But I didn’t think this is what I was doing. I felt like I did plenty of things for myself. I enjoyed sushi dates with myself, I let myself go to the library to work for 3-4 hours at a time and I went for walks by myself or runs every once in awhile. I didn’t think I was doing enough for the kids to justify me doing things for them before myself. Typical Mom brain, I believe. The reality is I was tending to them first. I spend all day with my children and I felt like 1 hour each day for me to exercise my body was too much time away. I’ve paid for multiple sports activities for the kids, but a yoga studio membership felt selfish (it was only for me after all). Now that I see these things, it’s kind of crazy to think how long it took me to sign up for yoga. . . We’re staying in the theme of self love. You all made my day feel even more celebratory! . . Yesterday at the zoo it felt as if the animals were talking to me. We had not one, not two, not even 3, but 4 animals come up to us and sit right in front of us! First a penguin swam up and around our window bubble. Doing belly slides on the glass. After playing for a bit, she rested right in front of us. It felt like she was looking me in the eye. . . Then in the walk through aquarium, a Goliath grouper swam up to us, paused to meet us before heading up and over our heads. At the end of the aquarium tunnel, a giant sea turtle swam over our heads and then settled down to rest in front of us. . . Lastly, we made our way to the giraffe area to find a giraffe at the front almost waiting for us. She moved her lips and made noises, like she was talking to us. . . I ended my birthday researching the meanings of the presence of these beautiful creatures in your life. In summary, they were telling me my dreams can come true, go at my own pace when things get overwhelming and being comfortable with myself is important. . . Woot woot!! The kiddos and I are headed to the Omaha zoo! I love being among magnificently humongous animals. The giraffes and elephants amaze me every time. It’s Monday, the start of the week, we’re going to start the week off on a positive, feel good note. Think good thoughts and good things will happen. The more forgiveness work I do on myself, the more positive I become and the more good things are happening to me. It’s a fun and wonderful thing! . . To get our good vibes flowing, we’re going to think of our loved ones. Why we love them? How they make us feel wonderful? The good things they are in our lives. We tend (at least I know I do) to focus on the critical things. What we want them to change or do differently. By doing this, we are bringing more of this into our lives. We notice the critical things and miss all the wonderful things they do for us in our lives. . . So today we’re going to start the good vibes flowing to bring more of the good in our lives. Tag a friend and list something that you have noticed them do lately. It can be as little as loading the dishwasher to as big as getting a huge promotion. We all do amazing things everyday and they can easily go unnoticed (mostly because life is busy and we don’t mindfully notice them). So today we’re going to pause and reflect.
